What is Exosome Therapy?

Exosomes in Action

The Power of Exosomes:

What is Exosome Therapy?

First, an exosome is a tiny messenger that can make a big impact.  These tiny, membrane-bound sacs are released by most cells in the body. They are small pieces extracted from a cell that carry genetic information and proteins throughout the body.

An exosome’s primary role is that of a messenger, delivering information within the body much the way people deliver messages and information  to each other via texts, emails, etc. An exosome is a microscopic communication packet, delivering instructions and materials from one cell to another impacting processes such as immune responses and tissue repair.

Their unique cell-to-cell communication ability, as well as their role in carrying bioactive molecules, has brought them to the forefront of medical procedures.

Notably, among the procedures that are effectively using these advantageous exosomes is medical esthetics and skincare.

Derived from stem cells, exosomes play a vital role in tissue repair and regeneration because of their ability to promote wound healing, bone or cartilage repair, and nerve regeneration.

In Medical Esthetics, their natural ability to be absorbed by specific cells, makes them attractive for delivering therapeutic agents directly to the cells of the treatment area which, among its multitude of benefits, can minimize post procedure side effects.

Due to the fact that the bone marrow stem cell is the only cell in the human system that contains a natural and pro-healing secretion, an exosome that is derived from a bone marrow stem cell is ideal for use in esthetics. The components of this stem cell byproduct promote the regeneration of new, healthier and more youthful cells. They also greatly reduce inflammation, hence minimizing the healing time or “downtime” of the post procedure period.

Exosome Therapy can be used for many medical procedures from disease diagnosis to surgical infiltration of damaged tissue and beyond.

Delivery of Exosomes in Medical Esthetics:

The use of Exosome Therapy in medical esthetics is utilized to bring a skincare procedure to an advanced level of rendered results.

The process of extracting the bone marrow stem cell used in skincare and exosomes is very precise. Because stem cells become sluggish with age, only extremely healthy, young individuals (most often females in their early 20’s) who have been through a rigorous screening process, who are athletic and disease-free will be selected. From there, the scientific process proceeds.

In order for an individual to receive the maximum benefit of exosome therapy in a medical esthetic setting, it is important for the Esthetic Practitioner to make certain that the exosomes are properly delivered and infused. Full benefits will not be rendered and the effective desired result will remain minimal at best if exosomes are simply applied to an untreated surface and left to simply sit on top of the skin. The key to using them effectively is by applying them after properly treating and preparing the patient’s skin through an esthetic procedure.

Standard or Radiofrequency Microneedling is an effective and ideal way to prepare skin for the application of exosomes.  By creating microchannels in the area of concern with the use of sterile, penetrating electrodes/needles, the surface of the skin will be receptive to the introduction of exosomes when applied immediately afterwards. The benefits of promoting collagen, elastin and correcting scars or uneven skin pigment will be exponentially enhanced by this immediate infusion.  Exosome Therapy will effectively promote rapid healing and a higher level of  healthy skin cell production. Based on the degree of correction desired, a series of exosome therapy sessions, spaced several weeks apart, will produce a more youthful, firm and smooth complexion.

Additionally, exosomes for hair restoration is an extremely effective and popular esthetic procedure for individuals who are noticing hair recession and hair loss due to aging, illness or even after treatments such as chemotherapy.
