COVID Testing Q & A

What is COVID testing?

COVID testing is a group of screening procedures used to diagnose the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).

At Optimal Men’s Center, Mr. Knight offers same-day scheduling and COVID testing that’s covered by insurance. What’s more, the tests provide fast, accurate results within one to three days.

What are the different types of COVID testing?

At Optimal Men’s Center, Mr. Knight offers several types of COVID testing, including:

Diagnostic tests

A diagnostic test uses a nose swab to determine if you have an active viral infection. The two main types of diagnostic tests are molecular tests and antigen tests. Molecular tests, or PCR tests, look for pieces of a virus’ genetic material. Antigen tests detect specific virus proteins. Diagnostic tests allow for speedy results.

Antibody tests

Antibody tests screen for viral antibodies made by your immune system. This type of testing requires a blood draw and typically takes a week or more to process. Because antibodies continue to form after you’re no longer contagious, these tests aren’t recommended for diagnosing COVID-19.

To avoid surprise insurance costs, the team recommends only scheduling one type of test per appointment. If you want both types, schedule them on separate days.

Who should undergo COVID testing?

Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, chills, shortness of breath, muscle or body aches, and diarrhea should get tested.

You should also undergo testing if you have a friend, family member, or colleague who receives a diagnosis, even if you feel healthy. Some people with COVID-19 are asymptomatic, meaning you might be contagious but not realize it.

The team at Optimal Men’s Center offers COVID testing for any community member of the age of six months or older, including people who aren’t current patients. You can even schedule an appointment for yourself and other family members at the same time.

How does COVID testing work?

If you want to undergo COVID testing, call Optimal Men’s Center or book an appointment online. Once you do, a member of the team calls and sends you a text message with a link to fill out your medical forms.

After filling out the necessary paperwork, visit Optimal Men’s Center during normal business hours at your earliest convenience. When you arrive at the office, call from the parking lot. Once a team member is ready to see you, they call or text you to come to the front door.

The team member tests you in the closed-off lobby by performing a quick, pain-free nasal swab. If you scheduled a telemedicine appointment, a team member comes to your car and conducts your swab in the parking lot.

About 24-72 hours later, you log in to the online patient portal to view your results.
